Zebra LS2208 Corded 1D Laser Barcode Scanner Twilight Black Scanner Only No Cable No Stand LS2208-SR20007R

Zebra LS2208 Corded 1D Laser Barcode Scanner Twilight Black Scanner Only No Cable No Stand LS2208-SR20007R

Key Features

  • Corded 1D laser scanner, the long-serving workhorse of retail and back-office scanning.
  • 100 scans per second on a single 650 nm Class 2 laser line, bi-directional.
  • Reads standard 1D symbologies including UPC/EAN, Code 39, Code 128 and Interleaved 2 of 5.
  • Reads a 13 mil UPC from contact out to about 25 inches, so shelf edges are within reach.
  • Tolerates 60 degrees of roll and 65 of pitch, so an awkwardly angled label still reads.
  • IP30 rated and designed to survive repeated 5 ft drops to concrete.
  • Host powered over the cable at 4.5 to 5.5 V DC; no battery and no power supply to manage.
  • Multi-interface body: USB, RS-232, Keyboard Wedge and IBM 46XX over RS485, set by the cable.
  • Light at 5.3 oz, so a full shift of handheld scanning does not build up wrist fatigue.
  • Scanner only: no cable and no stand. The cable is what sets the interface and must be ordered.
  • Backed by a five-year Zebra warranty plus a limited lifetime warranty on the scan element.

Key Specifications

  • Scan Engine: 650 nm Class 2 laser diode, single line, bi-directional. Not an imager

What Is Included

LS2208-SR20007R is the scanner on its own. There is no interface cable in the box and no stand. On this scanner the cable is not an accessory but the component that decides whether it presents as USB, RS-232, Keyboard Wedge or IBM 46XX, so without one the LS2208 cannot connect to anything at all. Sites that already stock Zebra cables, or that need an interface other than USB, order this part deliberately. Anyone building a station from nothing should order a kit part number instead.

Laser, Not an Imager

The LS2208 is a single-line 650 nm Class 2 laser. It reads standard 1D barcodes at 100 scans per second and it does not read 2D symbologies: no QR codes, no Data Matrix, no PDF417, no Aztec, and nothing displayed on a phone or a monitor. That last point is the one that catches buyers out, because mobile coupons, loyalty codes and digital tickets all arrive as 2D codes on a screen. If any part of the workload involves scanning a display, this is the wrong scanner and Zebra's DS2208 area imager is the direct equivalent that does read them. For pure 1D work the LS2208 remains fast, cheap and extremely well proven.

Read Range and Handling

Zebra specifies a typical read range on a 13 mil UPC from contact out to about 25 inches, with a 35 degree scan angle. The engine tolerates 60 degrees of roll and 65 of pitch, so a label presented at an angle still reads on the first pass; skew tolerance is narrower at 10 degrees, which is the normal trade for a single-line laser. At 6.0 by 2.5 by 3.3 inches and 5.3 ounces it is light enough for a full shift of handheld use, and it reads in ambient light up to 8,000 foot-candles, which covers a sunlit shop front.

Durability and Power

The LS2208 is rated IP30 and designed to survive repeated 5 foot drops to concrete, with ESD protection to plus or minus 15 kV air discharge. IP30 means protection against solid objects of 2.5 mm and larger with no liquid protection, so this is an indoor counter and stockroom scanner rather than one for a wash-down area or a loading dock in the rain. It takes 4.5 to 5.5 V DC from the host over the interface cable, drawing 175 mA typical and 90 mA on standby, so a single USB port powers it and carries its data with no external supply.

Warranty

Zebra warrants the LS2208 for five years from date of shipment against defects in workmanship and materials, and adds a limited lifetime warranty on the scan element itself. That is unusually long for a scanner at this price and it is the main reason the LS2208 has stayed in service across so many estates for so long. It is worth stating plainly because a three-year figure circulates widely for this model, including in our own earlier listing text, and it understates what Zebra actually offers. Configuration is handled by Zebra's 123Scan utility, by barcode or over USB.

Ordering Notes

Part number LS2208-SR20007R is the Twilight Black scanner alone, with no cable and no stand, in the Worldwide configuration. LS2208 part numbers differ by region, by colour and by whether a cable and a stand are included, and none of that is visible from the model name on the box. Zebra also builds this scanner in Cash Register White under separate part numbers. Confirm the exact part number against the requirement before ordering, and match what is already installed when adding to a fleet.

For retail tills, service counters, stockrooms and back-office positions that scan 1D barcodes and want a scanner that simply keeps working, the Zebra LS2208 LS2208-SR20007R is about as proven as this category gets. Contact us to learn more or secure this solution for your business today.
